Anti-Lakshmaiah camp softens stand
Senior Congressman in Andhra Pradesh Palvai Govardhan Reddy and other leaders, who have been making allegations of corruption against Irrigation Minister P Lakshmaiah, appeared to have mellowed down today following a directive from the party high command.
Reddy and other ruling party leaders met Governor E S L Narasimhan as announced earlier, but refrained from complaining about the allegations they had been making against the Minister.
"We have not complained against anybody. We will not do so. We met Governor about the Polavaram irrigation project. We want a change in the design so that massive evacuation of people is not needed in coastal region and submergence is prevented in Telangana," Govardhan Reddy told reporters. He said he will write a letter to Chief Minister K Rosaiah seeking a meeting to discuss Polavaram project.
The climb down by Reddy and other senior leaders, who had demanded the resignation of the Minister earlier, came following a directive from the high command.
State Congress President D Srinivas said in New Delhi yesterday that the high command has asked the senior leaders to refrain from making public comments against their party colleagues. Dismissing the allegations against him, Lakshmaiah has ruled out his resignation.
